Alcoholism and the Addictions Committee Report: May 2020 The MPS Committee on Alcoholism and the Addictions has planned a wide variety of accomplished speakers to address some very relevant and timely topics within the field of addiction psychiatry in the next year. This academic year has seen increased attendance and engagement by the group, reflecting the context for increased attention to the ongoing opioid epidemic. Dr. Gregory Acampora spoke on a new guideline for peri-operative management of buprenorphine in patients with Opioid Use Disorder. Dr. Mladen Nisavic shared his research findings on the MGH protocol for phenobarbital for management of alcohol withdrawal. Dr. Jon Santiago, a Massachusetts State Representative and BMC Emergency Medicine Attending, spoke on current legislative advocacy efforts to address the opioid epidemic. We look forward to hosting upcoming talks by Dr. Grace Chang on OUD in Pregnancy and by Dr. Brandon Marshall on Supervised Injection Facilities. |
